Here is a preview article I wrote for Stocktonia ahead of the Tuesday Feb. 18 Stockton City Council Meeting that was published on Feb. 17, 2021. This is the routine sort of coverage on which I cut my journalistic teeth back when I was a young reporter at The Californian in Salinas. The newspaper workforce has fallen sharply in the past 20 years, by as much as 77 percent, "the single steepest dive among any of the 532 industries tracked by the Bureau of Labor Statistics," according to a July 12, 2024 Washington Post article (subscription required).
And yet, reporting jobs in non-traditional media are on the rise, according to the WaPo article above. There's plenty on which to nerd out there, for those who are inclined.
Stay tuned for highlights from Tuesday's City Council meeting in a follow-up article.
